Movie Review: BABY DRIVER
Star Rating (out of 5): *****
BABY DRIVER is writer-director Edgar Wright’s newest flick about a getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) in love with music but also with a girl (Lily James) who convinces him there’s more to life than crime. You had me at Edgar Wright though.
BABY DRIVER boasts magnificent style in various elements, especially the music. The soundtrack is the heartbeat of the film, correlating with every scene. In good Edgar Wright fashion, the film perfectly balances its tones of pure, but smart genre entertainment and strong emotion. From the start I was immersed in the surprisingly complex story, but also enjoyed it for its simpler parts. The supporting cast is pretty solid, especially Kevin Spacey. Ansel Elgort as the titular character brings diversity and heart to the table, as well as Lily James.
Probably could’ve been a little shorter. Some plot points were unnecessarily stretched out.
BABY DRIVER is a strong and stylistic blend of comedy, drama, and action that never leaves the viewer bored – get ready to ride!
