Star Review (out of 5): **
Going by it’s PR campaign, SUICIDE SQUAD wants to be the superhero movie to end all superhero movies. Spielberg once said that superhero movies would go the way of the west. Spielberg was right. These films have lost their spark. BATMAN V SUPERMAN is one of the biggest abominations in the history of film! This one, unfortunately, is no different. The film revolves around super villains becoming superheroes. They are sent in by the government to kick even more evil ass.
The cast is impressive. They give dedicated performances. My favorite of the bunch was Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Waller brings the Suicide Squad together. The woman is ruthless and intimidating. Will Smith and Margot Robbie are also good. Jared Leto is an interesting Joker. Sadly though, he is barely in the film, which does have a promising start. Then, it all falls apart.
There is barely a plot. Well, maybe there is, and I just was asleep by the time it finally kicked in. The antagonist is uninteresting. I wish the Joker was the bad guy. This way it slightly-sort of-possibly-maybe could have been better. Aside from the antagonist, the other characters are immensely boring. The flashback sequences provided for each of them feel forced. The worst is that no matter how hard this one tries to be a funny movie – it hardly ever is.
Suicide Squad is a big fat mess. Never mind the performances. The plot is incoherent. “We made this film for the fans!” No, you just made it for the paycheck.
