Movie Review: THE BIG SHORT
STAR RATING (out of 5): ***
THE BIG SHORT is another one of those complicated financial movies (bleh, you might say). In fact, this one is so complicated that celebrities appear at random to tell you what’s going on, and to keep you interested in the film’s plot of a huge financial crisis.
The celebrity thing is actually pretty entertaining, and the film’s star-studded cast is quite impressive and likable. Whenever the story is told in an engaging and sometimes entertaining manner, it actually gets you invested into the economy part. Isn’t that cool?
I didn’t dig the film’s TV-ish visual style. All the cinematography and editing seem very reminiscent of “The Office”, which also stars Steve Carell, although he doesn’t look like Steve Carell at all in this movie. Hey, it’s a big step up from how he looked in Foxcatcher though, right? Also, this movie is a bit too long and gets less entertaining in the final act.
